The Rose of Sharon is referenced in the Song of Solomon, a love story between a bridegroom and his bride. Through the ages, the Rose of Sharon has become symbolic of Christ, and His unconditional and undying love for mankind. Petals (Rose of Sharon) is a love story that unfolds as we come to terms with the very human journey that Jesus, symbolic of the Rose of Sharon, our bridegroom, embarked upon as He approached the time of His death. Truly He loved us as He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, struggling with His earthly destiny. He asked God to spare Him the pain of the cross He must bear…then He surrendered His will to the will of His Father.

As the journey of our personal lives unfolds, from birth to the time that we pass from this life and return to our maker, each test and trial, and every triumph, can be traced back to that story, and our Savior’s love for us. Yes, He prayed for you and He prayed for me. With His loving eyes He cried for you and He cried for me. He asked His Father to forgive us, even as He was dying on the cross, because He knew that as the story of our lives unfolded, one day, those of us who accepted Him as Lord and Savior would understand and embrace His great love for us, and the pain of His sacrifice. He knew that it would be worth it all. It brings joy, yet sorrow, as we come face to face with the reality that He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities (sins); the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and by His stripes we are healed. We can never detach ourselves from the emotions that surround the cross…never.

Petals (Rose of Sharon) Lyrics - By Sylvia Vines

Oh with His eyes He cried for me
He shed His blood on Calvary
He was born to die; part of His destiny was the tree
He did it for you; He did it for me

Well on His knees, He prayed for me
He gave His life that I'd be free
He was born to die; part of His destiny, Calvary
He did it for you; He did it for me.

After the petals unfold
Was revealed a story that's never been told
It tells of love beyond the thorns
He took my place, was mocked and scorned
Defeated death as His flash was torn
The Lamb was slain; salvation born

Oh with His eyes He cried for me
He gave His life that I'd be free
He was born to die; part of His destiny Calvary
He did it for you; He did it for me

After the petals unfold
Was revealed a story that's never been told
It tells of love beyond the thorns
He took my place, was mocked and scorned
Defeated death as His flash was torn
The Lamb was slain; salvation born.
